Presentation Outcomes:

After this presentation you will have an understanding of:

  • Understand when and how to use facilitating auditory strategies for a young child developing spoken language through listening
  • Know how to administer the Ling six sound test
  • Have a range of auditory strategies in your tool box
  • Understand how to use your voice to best affect understanding of spoken language in a young child
  • Have two ‘go to references’ for theoretical and practical application

Attending Auditory Strategies will contribute 1 hours of NSW Education Standards Authority (NESA) Registered PD addressing 1.1, 1.4, 1.5, 1.6, 6.4, 6.5, 7.3, and 7.4 from the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers towards maintaining Proficient Teacher Accreditation in NSW.



  • Lynne Richards
    Lynne started her career in the United Kingdom teaching in a mainstream primary school in south east London before arriving in Australia in 1978. From that time, she has worked with school age children, young children and babies to develop their listening and spoken language skills. She has mentored and trained prospective LSLS Cert AVT’s in Australia, Asia and New Zealand. She was a founding member of the Hearing House, Auckland, now New Zealand’s Northern Cochlear Implant Program. She held a position of Trainer/Mentor at The Shepherd Centre Early Intervention Centre in Sydney running internal, national and international training programs for teachers and therapists. Along with two professional colleagues, Lynne wrote ‘Listen, Learn and Talk’, a Cochlear resource for families with children with hearing impairment documenting auditory strategies to develop children’s listening  and spoken language development from birth to school age. Lynne has worked at RIDBC for the last 10 years, holding positions as a Teleschool consultant, Coordinator of Early Learning Program (HI), Manager of Macquarie Services, Acting Head of RIDBC Early Childhood Services for Children with Hearing Impairment and is currently in a support education and professional role to programs for hearing impaired children, within RIDBC.   Lynne Richards B’Ed (hons), Post Graduate Certificate Special Education, LSLS Cert AVT
