This webinar will provide an outline of SCIC’s paediatric assessment protocol for clients with SSD; pre-operative support and counselling provided, and guidelines for rehabilitation following CI in this population. Audiological outcomes and rate of progress will also be discussed. Case studies within three groups will be worked through i) SSD of a congenital nature, ii) progressive hearing loss that results in SSD and iii) children presenting with no cochlear nerve on MRI. Cases where children have discontinued use of their devices will also be discussed.
At the end of this session, participants will be able to:
· Understand what is involved in the cochlear implant candidacy assessment for children with SSD
· Identify factors that may affect cochlear implant outcomes, rate of progress and ongoing device compliance in children with SSD
· Identify appropriate rehabilitation techniques for managing children with SSD following cochlear implantation
These are convenient and accessible and can be accessed at anytime. These sessions are presented by International and National experts including RIDBC staff. All the courses are accredited by the BOSTES and many are also accredited by Audiology Australia and AG Bell.
