Course Information

Over the past 30 years, SCIC has implanted over 250 children aged 18 months or younger. Routine simultaneous cochlear implantation of children has been implemented since 2008. Prior to then single sided implantation was more common, therefore there is a cohort of children with unilateral, sequential bilateral and simultaneously implanted when they were infants.
Of these infants, approximately 30% have disabilities and considerations in addition to their deafness. This paper will focus on the children who have been identified with CMV and with CHARGE and will review their progress in relation to the children who have no other identifiable comorbidities.
