Sharon has been actively involved in the field of sensory disabilities for over 30 years.  Originally from New York State, Sharon was recipient of a Rotary International Award (1980), to study at Macquarie University in Sydney as Research Assistant at North Rocks Deaf and Blind Children’s Centre.  Here she developed a passion for building communication with children who are deafblind.  Since then, she has been a classroom teacher, visiting teacher, university lecturer and coordinator of services for individuals with deafblindness.  She also teaches the Deafblind Communication modules in the Auslan Studies Course at TAFE.

Sharon has presented at numerous forums nationally and internationally and was Chair of the Scientific Committee for the 14th World Conference of DbI (Deafblind International) held in Western Australia in 2007.
